Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Barnsley Council?
My experience at Barnsley Council has been really positive. I’ve felt well supported as a Graduate Apprentice, with good learning opportunities, friendly teams, and work that feels worthwhile and relevant.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role involves a wide range of financial responsibilities, including completing journals, supporting day‑to‑day finance tasks, monitoring salaries, preparing delegated reports, processing remittances, and raising purchase orders. Due to the varied nature of the work, I am involved in many different processes across the finance function. Since starting the role, I have developed significantly, taking on greater responsibility and building confidence in handling more complex tasks. I particularly value the variety within the role, as it has allowed me to continuously develop my skills and gain a broader understanding of financial operations within the organisation
