Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Varied role, with a mix of regular tasks and projects of various scales. I partner with teams across my organisation and get to manage my own programmes and activities as well as supporting bigger strategic pieces.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The People Professional apprenticeship is varied and engaging. My CIPD tutor delivers sessions regularly and I find the topics thought-provoking.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My confidence has grown massively through this apprenticeship - benchmarking the work I do in my role, in my organisation, against research and evidence from across the profession.
I've also developed my analytical skills and strategic thinking through this programme, considering the bigger picture and having more of a toolkit to draw from when approaching tasks, projects and problems.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My employer and provider integrate well to scaffold my experience as an apprentice. My timetable is clear, with my tutor & skills coach available and approachable for clarifying questions. Meanwhile, my timetable is used by my employer to plan ahead; this creates opportunities for me to get involved with projects and activity which align with my modules, meeting me at the right time and providing additional Off-The-Job learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer support me brilliantly throughout my apprenticeship. They create opportunities to enhance or extend my learning, and they consider my programme alongside my day-to-day role to ensure a good integration between the two.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutor is available and approachable. My Skills Coach is also prompt and effective when replying, and I can reach both of these contacts through multiple channels.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Studying the People Professional apprenticeship and the CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management at the same time is a valuable experience which is helping to make me a more rounded and skilled people professional.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have an Apprentice Network which provides opportunities to network and learn alongside all other apprentices across the organisation. This has been really helpful so far, and has given me access to seek advice and mentorship from fellow apprentices who are ahead of me in their programmes.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Transport for Greater Manchester to a friend?
Yes
Why?
TfGM have a clear and visible commitment to supporting apprentices and early careers professionals. They are building their numbers, bringing more and more apprenticeships into the business, but they also have a strong focus on making sure these programmes are meaningful and actually high-quality as well.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for Greater Manchester?
Bring your enthusiasm, your skills and strengths, and your curiosity to the application. TfGM wants to support apprentices and early career professionals who are keen to learn and develop, rather than just the 'finished article', so bring your best and show up knowing that you are exactly what this employer needs.
Also, be prepared! So many people let AI do the work for them when preparing applications or especially for interviews/assessments. Employers like TfGM see it often so they can spot it a mile away - if you take some time to search about TfGM, what we do and why it matters, you'll be setting yourself up for success.
