Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I would attend meetings in the morning and complete various tickets that need to be done for a project. I would be delegated these tasks and I would get the necessary support to complete them through methods such as pair programming or active collaboration. I was given access to a collection of learning materials so that I could not only use it on support for the projects, but use it to up skill.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I had a positive experience as you were in charge of the tasks that you completed. You would also be given active guidance and support on various different tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I had a great experience from the lessons and opportunists provided by the company as they allowed active learning to take place. Along with that I could just as easily present my own learning to others. I also had active access to various different mentors who have helped me to develop my overall skills. The only problem was that university learning material that was provided was fairly mundane or felt unnecessary in practical use though it did provide some value.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall the structure was a 4 days working and 1 day university. You were able to choose your specific university day which was great as it allowed for you to have a consistent structure when learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received a great amount of support from my employer. From mentors to opportunities where I could develop my own personal skills such as learning platforms or events.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from the training provider was lack luster, as we were provided with lots of reading material and a small amount of lectures that would go on, but be difficult to attend as they would end up happening on our working days. Some professors would put in more effort then others when getting the support, which would be frustrating at times.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some materials did provide knowledge on why certain practices took place in my working area but that value was only a small part due to the way my department is structure in how we complete projects and tasks. So I did not find that the qualification helped to drastically improve my performance within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There were a variety of oppertunties that were available such as activities or networking events. But you just need to be aware of the channels that are posting about it along with that your department may be less active with events compared to others (Maybe due to age differences effecting the type of events that would go on) so that might impact the experience.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It was a great learning opportunity and helped to expand key skills within consulting and development. I had the ability to work and learn from great mentors and managers. Who provided me with oppertunties to learn and push me to expand my skills. The project work was intense and extremely fulfilling.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be active, this is a job and people will not tell you what you need to do. You will be independent, which is great for some people but can impact others and their performance. Along with that you should be improving your skills.
