Cyber Security Placement Review

My day-to-day looks a lot different to traditional placement students. I had the opportunity to do 6 two month rotations around the different teams within cyber security. This involved: IT Continuity, SecOps, AppSec, IDaaS and IGA. My BAU tasks changed drastically from team to team, but the pain responsibilities involved taking charge in a mini project for each rotation.

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement. Alongside my BAU tasks, all placement students were given the opportunity to lead a student-led project focused on addressing a current business challenge. This meant taking ownership from the initial planning stage through to research, stakeholder engagement, and final delivery.
In my role, I was trusted to manage my own workload, contribute to team objectives, and communicate directly with stakeholders. The student-led project in particular required a high level of accountability, as we were responsible for identifying solutions, presenting recommendations, and ensuring our work aligned with business priorities.
Having this level of responsibility allowed me to develop my confidence, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently, while still collaborating effectively within a wider team.

YES! A key part of my role is communication and stakeholder management. These are two keys skills that have developed exponentially since starting my placement and has grown my professional confidence.

During this placement i have been provided with an incredible amount of support. Every student is given a mentor and a buddy throughout their journey - these people will act as your best friend and your wise elf to help guide you through it all.

MO has an amazing culture! People here are so friendly and support - no one will ever make you feel unwelcome

I enjoyed it lots! Never believed people when they said 'you'll never work a day in your life if you love what you do' but this placement made me believe it!
