Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role includes providing friendly and professional customer service, ensuring every patient feels welcomed and supported throughout their visit. I assist customers in choosing suitable frames and lenses based on their prescription, lifestyle and budget. I carry out pre-screening tests such as auto refraction, tonometry, OCT and fundus photos. I make sure these are done to high standards to help assist the optometrist in performing an efficient sight test. I help with the dispensing of spectacles, taking accurate measurements such as PD’s, heights, length to bend which follow along to fittings and adjustments. I manage appointments, handle payments and maintain accurate patient records in line with company policies and procedures. I also ensure the store is clean and well stocked up with glasses and drops, staying compliant with health and safety standards whilst working effectively in a team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the coaching I received throughout my year as an apprentice, I gained many skills that I hadn’t started with. I have learned at a pace that suits me and I couldn’t be happier, the level of support and interest couldn’t ever be topped and I am seriously very happy

So so so much support, I was constantly checked on and always looked out for. I have a great team and support network around me and I am very grateful

By constantly learning more thay doesn’t appear every day in store so always being prepared for the unknown, understanding that not everyone is the same and no one is just a number
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Swimming marathons, social gatherings such as Christmas party, if we win a store bonus work arranges a works do which is usually a meal or an activity such as bowling

Why?
Specsavers are always involved and keen on self progression to all of their employees, they provide excellent training and development areas.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
Be yourself, it doesn’t matter if you have no prior experience. Training courses such as the apprenticeship programme is excellent for qualifications and training. It is very efficient and you get loads of external support and development
