Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I have been gaining experience in a Structural (Civil) Engineering field to further my studies at University and further develop relevant skills for the workplace. In terms of the Structural Engineering, so far this has involved assisting on projects currently being undertaken at Buro Happold, and taking part in the software and skills training available at the company to further my knowledge.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I have been given enough responsibility to feel involved in the projects so far without feeling excess pressure to get everything right (i.e. I can make mistakes and learn).

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
So far, I have been provided with training on industry software that is otherwise not available to me at University. Some of this training has also taken place within the context of the projects I've been assisting on and so has been in depth and relevant. I have also been provided with the opportunity to develop my existing general design based skills taught at University.

I've been provided with a line manager and a "buddy", both have been keen that I ask any questions I might have. I've also had regular communication and guidance with several members of the team.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere in the office has been positive and friendly. The culture around the company is similar. The company has a "Young Engineers Forum" providing good social opportunities and a feeling of being connected and involved within the company quickly after starting.
