Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role as a Leadership Development Apprentice at TfGM, I rotate across different departments to gain hands‑on operational experience while studying for a Chartered Manager degree, which means my days are a mix of supporting team activities, contributing to ongoing projects, attending meetings and site visits, completing academic work and off‑the‑job learning, and developing key leadership skills through regular check‑ins, training sessions, and collaboration with colleagues across the organisation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme because it gives me the chance to learn, grow, and challenge myself every day. The mix of hands‑on experience, exposure to different teams, and the opportunity to study for a degree while working makes it both rewarding and motivating. I feel supported, stretched, and genuinely excited about the skills and confidence I’m developing for my future career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve developed a wide range of new skills and strengthened existing ones through the programme. Rotating across different teams has helped me build confidence, improve my communication and teamwork, understand operational processes, and adapt quickly to new environments. I’ve also developed stronger leadership, problem‑solving and organisational skills through project work, site visits, university assignments, and regular feedback from managers and colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised and structured, with clear expectations, regular check‑ins, planned university blocks, and supportive placements that build on each other. Each rotation has a purpose, the learning is aligned with my degree, and I always know what skills and behaviours I’m working towards, which makes the whole experience feel coordinated, supportive, and easy to navigate.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a really strong level of support from my employer, with regular check‑ins, clear guidance, and approachable managers and colleagues who are always willing to help. I’m also given separate time each week, around 20% of my working hours, or roughly 6 hours, to focus on my personal development, university work, and building the skills I need to progress, which makes a huge difference and shows how committed TfGM is to helping apprentices succeed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from my training provider, with regular check‑ins, clear guidance on assignments, and structured feedback that helps me stay on track with my qualification. They make expectations easy to understand, offer quick help whenever I have questions, and provide useful resources and workshops. Having dedicated tutor sessions also means I can focus on my academic progress and feel confident that I’m meeting all the requirements for my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualifications really support me in performing better in my role, because the learning I gain through my training provider directly links to the work I’m doing across my placements. The modules help me understand core concepts like leadership, communication, problem‑solving and project management, and I’m able to apply these straight away in real situations at TfGM. Having both the theory and the practical experience running side by side has made me more confident, more structured in my approach, and better equipped to contribute meaningfully to my team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are extra‑curricular activities to get involved in at work. Alongside the wider TfGM events such as apprentice coffee mornings and networking sessions, we also have our own weekly social catch‑ups within our apprentice group every Friday. These sessions give us a chance to reflect on what we’ve learned in our different departments, support each other, and build strong relationships. We also make time to socialise outside of work by going for pizza lunches or getting together for dinner, which helps us stay connected, unwind, and enjoy the programme as a team
