Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a Trainee Business Analyst (BA) involves working on internal IT projects, as the part I need to engage regularly with key stakeholders and facilitate workshops to elicit requirements and construct other BA documentation e.g. process maps.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Fantastic programme - learnt lots, colleagues at TfGM have been extremely supportive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots of new key skills for my role, including presentation, performing under pressure, stakeholder engagement and management, significantly developed my communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and time management skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Really well organised from start to finish, support has been excellent every step of the way. However, I do think that the pathway from apprentice to a full role within the business could be made clearer - as we are the first cohort of degree apprentices in my department there is currently no documented, clear progression pathway from apprentice to a BA role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer could not be anymore supportive. Line manager and senior leadership within my team are always there for me and accommodate for my Uni learning really well by giving me enough time to complete that work to a high standard.
They have also been super patient and supportive whilst developing as a Trainee BA, facilitating training courses for me and also a great mix of hand-holding/support whilst learning the craft on projects, to now letting me work independently and lead on key projects for my development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
MMU have been excellent. Lecturers always going above and beyond to support me and the other TfGM apprentices through our course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification/Uni course massively helps me in my day to day role. It provides me with essential context and knowledge around IT, business, project management etc ... which has enabled me to feel more confident when working on projects and gain a deeper understanding of more technical topics.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes - plenty. TfGM conduct a weekly 5-a side football game (which is great to meet others and build friendships), as well as regular socials which include going out for coffee, food / drinks.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Transport for Greater Manchester to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Without a doubt, 100%. TfGM is a fantastic place to work and develop as an apprentice. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for Greater Manchester?
If an apprentice role becomes available at TfGM, focus on demonstrating transferrable skills e.g. communication skills, problem solving skills and ability to work well in a team.
The recruitment team will be looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable person that can be molded into the final product throughout the course of the apprenticeship - not the end product straight away!
