Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day to day I worked as a consultant, working with premier clients to solve their business and technology problems. Each project was very different and I felt I learnt a lot on each of them.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, but I feel this is very dependent on team. If placed with a good team (I was) there is exceptional scope for taking on responsibility and it is actively encouraged by most managers. I feel I was given much more responsibility than friends who have done other placements, but have met IBM interns who did not feel that way. Overall, very positive in this regard.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I feel I learned a great deal more here than in university. There are some very talented people at IBM who are more than willing to give you their time.
On the business side of things, I learnt the intangibles that simply cannot be taught in a classroom. My manager was exceptional at this and really pushed for my development here, which I feel paid off and am eternally grateful for.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
IBM has an excellent culture, I cannot think of anyone that has refused to help me. People actively try and develop young talent even if it isn't strictly 'their job'. To get this time and guidance from experienced operators with such a wide range of experiences is massively beneficial.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Fantastic as a whole, but depends team to team. My team personally was excellent - friendly, collaborative and willing to help out.
