Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at IBM?
It's been a good company to work for. The work culture is good, they give you lots of good benefits that in the long term are great, they do really look after the staff who work here. The work has been varied and interesting with a good working culture within my teams, with some politics involved with some project choice and decision making which is bound to happen in big corporates
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I've been involved with everything from video production, to MVP design, to sprint planning, to driving sales conversations and running workshops with C-suite level clients and technical SME's. It's been a good eye opener to the industry - not limited to just my area but new tech areas like quantum and agentic AI.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I definitely feel valued in my team with the work I do
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Somewhat good with some salary sacrifice but sales bonus is also a great perk
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Slightly less meaningful, as so much changes all of the time. Updates and team restructuring does occur quite frequently so expect your role to change slightly or teams to be moved around every 3 years or so
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Yes good but internal training isn't amazing. You do get access to great external resources like Coursera which is a big plus

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Great support from managers who care, never had one who didn't really understand my goals and position
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Great work life balance, they look after the employees and care when people are ill/stressed. You can claim back work which is a big plus.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Good, somewhat chaotic within my department due to nature of the role but enjoyable
How would you rate IBM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
Pretty good but with the introduction of American politics and it being an American company this has changed somewhat to what is pushed and what people champion
How would you rate IBM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Pretty good, they do care but despite this they also share a building with Shell which is not quite the right view for a tech company

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good culture, lovely people, good benefits, enjoyable projects and in an exciting area, work life balance is great, opportunity to move around teams and locations.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Pretty well, the tasks weren't exactly what I thought they would be with some picture presentations, group tasks, and portfolio reviews, but I understand now they needed a breadth of it.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to IBM?
Be authentic, don't come in showing off all of the cool things you do, tick off everything in the job description to a T and make sure you build ontop of it. They care about people who can bring new skills, but the right skills are more important. Showcase you're an SME in the area.
