Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at IBM?
My experience has been very positive. There is a very good culture and community feel, particularly in my department and location. The management team are very supportive and there's a lot of investment into our development.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role is in sales for IBM Z (mainframe). I enjoy the client facing nature of the role and the sense of achievement that comes with seeing a deal close that I have contributed to, and earning commission as a result.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I get many opportunities to contribute and take responsibility.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
I am well paid in my role - with my compensation including a base salary and commission. The pension scheme and other benefits are also solid.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I can see myself staying in this role and progressing in years to come.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
There's a strong focus on our development through a mix of events/conferences, online learning, and on-the-job training.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The management team are very supportive and approachable. We also have a good mentor system within my team which has enabled me to learn from a more experienced team member while I train up.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
There is a good work-life balance. Of course, the nature of the role sometimes demands you to work extra hours, but it is worth it when it results in a big deal. Plus, there's a lot of flexibility around working from home, we currently have no minimum number of office days. There is a good trust system in place around working hours/times, no fixed times to log on or off, and no fixed length for your breaks, as long as you're performing in the role and not taking advantage of it.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Really good culture. There's been a big investment in new talent in my department over the last 1-2 years which includes me, and it has given the team a good balance and atmosphere. Almost everyone is willing to give up their time to help you out as a new starter.
How would you rate IBM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
From what I have seen IBM appears to promote and invest a lot in this area.
How would you rate IBM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
From what I have seen IBM appears to promote and invest a lot in this area.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As I said previously, it ticks a lot of boxes. The culture is positive and fresh, there has been a lot of thought put into our development for the future, and a clear pathway to progression, and we are well compensated.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
The role has exceeded expectations in many ways
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to IBM?
The application process can be lengthy, but stick it out and make the effort. During the group assessment stage, make an effort to contribute but not overwhelm, try to bring others that are less active into the mix. In the individual interviews, just be yourself and prepare well.
