Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my placement year, I worked as a Clinical Trial Assistant, supporting the management of Immunology Clinical Trials across the UK. My responsibilities included attending regular meetings with study team members, performing file reconciliation and quality reviews. As well as providing general support to ensure the smooth and compliant running of clinical studies.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a significant level of responsibility during my placement and often felt like a permanent member of the team rather than a student on placement. My manager and colleagues trusted me with important tasks and projects, while always providing support and guidance when needed.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Throughout my placement, I developed a wide range of skills, both professional and technical. I gained valuable experience working in a professional environment and strengthened my soft skills, such as communication, teamwork and time management. Most importantly, I built a great deal of confidence in my abilities. Reflecting on my growth from my first day to the end of my placement, I can see how much I’ve developed both personally and professionally.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received constant support and guidance throughout my placement, both from my fellow placement students and from my manager and wider team. I was never made to feel that any question was silly or that I was doing something wrong. I always felt comfortable asking for help or clarification when needed, which created a safe and empowering work environment where I was able to learn and grow with confidence.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was incredibly supportive and welcoming. From the very start, I felt included as part of the team rather than just a placement student. Everyone was approachable and willing to help, which made it easy to ask questions and learn. There was a really positive atmosphere and my manager and colleagues created an environment where I felt comfortable, valued and encouraged to grow. Overall, it was a happy and motivating place to work, and I always felt supported in everything I did.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year, not only because it gave me the opportunity to learn more about the industry I hope to build a future career in, but also because of the people, the culture and the sense of purpose that came with the work. I loved being part of a team and contributing to something meaningful and the experience has really confirmed my interest in pursuing a career in this field.

What advice would you give to others applying to Johnson & Johnson
I would advise future placement students that J&J is an incredible company to work for; both in terms of its culture and the opportunities and benefits it offers. I would encourage them to really take the time to learn about the company, its values and what it stands for, as this helps you appreciate the impact of your work. I’d also remind them to keep going, even if the application process feels challenging, because it’s absolutely worth it in the end. I would thoroughly recommend this placement to anyone considering it.
