Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I perform diagnostic checks on patients before their sight test. I also dispense glasses after a sight test and fit glasses/check vision on collection of glasses. I also provide customer service, assisting customers to select a frame and/or lens that benefits them the most.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find optics interesting and enjoy my role although the store can sometimes be overwhelmingly busy and workload quickly becomes unmanageable

I have learnt a lot of new skills and also built my confidence not just in my roll but in general

apprenticeship team and in store trainer provide structure to the programme but store management don't always follow this.

It's a struggle to get my training time which causes delays in my learning and progress

even though there are difficulties working in store I still really enjoy my role and would encourage anyone to try it

be prepared for a fast paced environment. there is a lot to learn so take your time and take it all in
