Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an apprentice I have had a few different roles so far have tried different areas and will go onto more. Th current role I do everyday and know well is being in Pre-Screen. This involves arriving patients and pre testing them for the optometrists. I have been doing autos, iop's and oct scans too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy this programme. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. Very helpful if I have any questions or struggle with anything.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Definitely! I have progressed well in Pre-Screen I would say, that is definitely the area I have developed most. I have answered phone calls as well as calling customers which I have had some previous experience with in previous jobs, but practicing so early on definitely helped develop further confidence.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Everything is easy to access and find and if I ever struggle I know my apprenticeship team can help me out as well as people in store.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I would say quite a lot. My manager is always making sure to acknowledge with me when I will be able to do my apprenticeship work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They have definitely helped me find certain tasks or workbooks that I need to submit work and learn more!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think learning things bit by bit through modules and giving it a go definitely helps me perform better as it is more relaxed in a way.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am not sure. There was a work social event which I went to where a lot of us did an escape room which was really nice!

Everyone here is friendly and helpful and it is just a good work atmosphere.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
Be yourself and be open and confident when trying new things. And do not be afraid to ask for help as everyone will do their best to try and help you!
