Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an Advocacy and Influence intern, my role was supporting the Advocacy team on their paid, love and community campaigns. This involved day to day administrative tasks such as posting product to members of the public and creating T&Cs for competitions and giveaways. I was also involved in brainstorming for events, creating briefs for paid influencer content and carrying out research on competitor brands and their social activations.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was surprised and pleased that I was given a significant level of responsibility during my summer internship. I was given projects that I was able to take ownership of, which left me feeling proud and accomplished at the end of my internship. This included leaving comments on viral content from the brand TikTok account, producing a presentation on a new makeup brand launching in the UK to be shared with the total team, and being given creative freedom when creating briefs for paid influencer content. I was given feedback on this, but still felt like they were projects I had taken personal ownership of.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The summer internship gave me the chance to develop my confidence, problem solving abilities and time management skills.
Whilst I felt confident before beginning my internship, I didn’t have this confidence in a professional setting. Through working closely with other members of my team and approaching new tasks head on, I felt much more confident in a workplace environment by the end of the summer, and like I could tackle problems myself, without always having to rely on others.
Through being given multiple tasks and projects to work on at once, with different deadlines, I also developed my time management systems and learnt new strategies for organising and prioritising my work.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a high level of support from my manager, who made sure that at the beginning of my internship I was able to ask questions freely and confidently to develop necessary skills and was given feedback when completing tasks and projects.
I was also given feedback and support from various people I worked with on different projects to support my development throughout the summer.
