Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an advocacy and communication intern I supported on the brand's paid campaigns, seedings and events to help the brand connect with its audience and key partners. This involved various actions on a day-to-day basis. First, I worked on the operational side of paid campaigns by assisting with communications between different stakeholders, sending out the relevant products for each campaign, and keeping track of their progress in trackers. Second, I assisted on seedings by actively engaging with agents, PR agencies and influencers to gather the necessary information for product seeding initiatives. I would afterwards keep track of the content produced by those seedings. Additionally, I supported on brand events, which involved managing the logistics and organisation, securing guest list and RSVPs, and being the main point of contact during events to ensure everything ran perfectly. I also regularly worked on weekly and monthly A&I reports to provide an overview of how campaigns, seedings and events were performing and the brand visibility being produced by them.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility during my summer internship which very pleasantly surprised me. For example, I was trusted with the organisation of an event that took place over the summer. I was responsible for sending out the invitations, securing the event's guest list, the set up of the event space, the catering, the IT and equipment, and being the main point of contact on the day. Throughout the whole process, I was in communication with the brand's internal and external partners. After the event, I worked on content tracking and post-event reporting.
Overall, you are trusted with a many responsibilities as an intern at L'Oreal which is very rewarding and a key feature in helping you develop multiple skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
This experience as an advocacy and communications summer intern at L'Oreal allowed me to develop an array of very useful skills. First, I believe it allowed me to strongly develop my organisation and time management skills which went hand in hand during the internship. This role requires you to work on various different projects at the same time and be able to complete all time sensitive actions accordingly. Developing strong time management systems helped me keep track of all the different ongoing projects. It also taught me how to prioritise, which was a key tool to staying organised. Second, the role strengthened my communication skills, internal as well as external. As an advocacy intern, you are in constant communication with your team members and the brand's stakeholders. You need to ensure all relevant parties are always made aware of a project's latest status and updates. Which leads to another skill, relationship building and team collaboration. This is a people driven role and teaches you how to increasingly better manage these relationships. Lastly, this role has allowed me to develop my project coordination and management skills. Supporting on various steps of paid campaigns, seedings or events taught me the crucial importance of smoothly coordinating each individual phase to ensure successful project outcomes.
