Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
In my role, I worked across a range of project-based tasks that supported both product launches and brand performance. I was responsible for creating and maintaining asset bibles for media and product description pages, coordinating new launch preparations including commercial send-outs to retailers, and overseeing the legal and scientific approval of assets. I carried out audits on product description pages and contributed to product copy development. I also analysed weekly and monthly sell-out data to track the performance of new launches and overall brand market position, while investigating product sales deficits to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, I contributed to a refill initiative, supporting the company’s wider sustainability goals.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a significant level of responsibility and ownership over my projects. My manager trusted me to manage my workload independently, which meant I was able to drive my projects forward without needing constant prompting. I was encouraged to take initiative, add in any information or ideas I felt would strengthen the work, and conduct self-guided research to build on my outputs. This freedom not only gave me accountability but also allowed me to upskill in areas such as data analysis, copywriting, and product lifecycle management, while developing confidence in my ability to deliver high-quality, self-directed work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
During my role I developed several new skills. On the technical side, I improved my ability to analyse and interpret sell-out and market performance data, identifying trends and investigating sales deficits. I also gained experience in copywriting for product pages, ensuring both accuracy and brand consistency, and in navigating legal and scientific approval processes for assets. Beyond this, I learnt how to build and manage asset bibles to streamline launches, and contributed to sustainability-focused projects such as the refill initiative.
On a professional level, I strengthened my self-management, time prioritisation, and research skills, as I was encouraged to work independently, upskill, and add value to projects through my own initiative.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had regular support from my manager, with weekly check-ins to review progress, and the option to arrange additional meetings whenever I needed more guidance. The wider team was also very approachable and always available if I needed further information or context. Beyond immediate project support, I was encouraged to network with other departments across the company, which gave me broader exposure and a better understanding of the business. My manager was particularly supportive in ensuring that my projects were aligned not only with company needs but also with my personal learning goals, making the experience both structured and tailored to my development.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was excellent, with a real focus on supporting and valuing early careers. There was a strong “coffee culture,” where colleagues were always happy to sit down and talk not only about career development but also about life more generally, which made the environment very open and approachable. I also really appreciated the staff incentives, such as the staff shop, summer Fridays, and the wider corporate perks, which added to the sense of being valued as an employee. Diversity was another strong aspect of the culture, both in terms of representation within the company and through the events organised to celebrate and raise awareness. Overall, it felt like a positive, supportive, and inclusive place to work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my internship and found it to be a rewarding experience both professionally and personally. I liked having real ownership over projects and the freedom to shape my work, which made me feel trusted and valued. The supportive culture, focus on early careers, and opportunities to network across the business also made the experience engaging and motivating. On top of that, the variety of tasks – from product copywriting and data analysis to sustainability-focused projects – meant that no two weeks felt the same, which kept the role interesting and helped me develop a broad skill set. Overall, I came away with a strong sense of achievement and a clearer understanding of the kind of work I’d like to pursue in the future.
