Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The Insight Programme involved 4 days of talks and presentations, along with lots of opportunities to speak to the bankers at the firm. On a day-to-day basis, it involved a mixture of these presentations about the firm and about the industry in general, and at the end of the week everyone did a group presentation about a potential M&A deal in front of a group of bankers.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
This aspect of the programme was similarly excellent - we had talks from all the different divisions and teams, and had the opportunity to ask them as many questions as we desired. This whole process was very insightful - I now have a much better understanding of the business as a whole, as well as some ideas about which sector I might like to focus most on going forward.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I would say that I have developed many new skills - like a good number of people on the course, I do not do a finance-related degree nor have I worked in finance before. I learnt many new skills, such as a greater knowledge of the processes behind an M&A deal, and was able to attempt to put these skills to use firsthand, whilst also developing my presentation skills.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was excellent - from the outset, they were keen to get across the family-owned nature of the firm, and this familial atmosphere clearly permeates all the way through the firm. We also found out about their charitable and voluntary initiatives, and it is clear that the firm is also very focused on giving back to the community. Rothschild and Co seems like a great place to work, with a very friendly atmosphere.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed the insight greatly - it was incredibly well-organised and well-run, and we were able to ask questions all the way through. There were plenty of opportunities to network with everyone else on the programme, as well as with the bankers at the firm. Furthermore, the chance to be able to personally work on an M&A type-deal as a group really gave us a great insight into what work is like at the firm.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co
Definitely do so! It was a great experience. As for any specific tips, I'd definitely recommend checking the website and getting to know about the firm before the interview and cover letter process. Furthermore, keep an eye on current affairs as questions about the industry are bound to come up in the interview.
