Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Booking through and pre-testing customers. Dispensing customers glasses. Collecting glasses with customers. Triaging customer's eye health concerns. Dealing with customer concerns and performing adjustments to glasses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really love the way my apprenticeship was lay out. I am a very kinesthetic learner and writing journals and reports on different subjects, then putting them into practice on the shop floor, really helped everything stick.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Enhanced my people skills greatly. Empathy skills when dealing with different types of customers. Clinical skills in understanding how to keep the clinic running on time and the implications of not being proficient and communicating everything with the rest of the team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship course is super - well structured. The ILearn modules are very interactive and practicing my skills on the shop floor as I go makes my skills stick. The course was very flexible and I was able to cover subjects that I was undergoing training on the shop floor at the same time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer gave me more support than needed, I was able to access them when I needed them and they were very flexible with when I wanted my training. They were always there to give me support on every subject I was struggling to understand and were patient in giving me reasons for why we do things certain ways.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider was so vigilant at getting back to me, whenever I needed them, they were there.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I can always look back through my journals, my qualification was very thorough and I have learnt so much in regards to my job role. I have all the information needed to perform and progress further in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am the store charity leader and I really enjoy setting up events for the team. We have Christmas and summer parties which we join with local stores.

The team have been incredibly supportive throughout my whole journey with them. They have constantly and consistently offered support and gone above and beyond. There is always members of the team you can approach at all times and this gives much reassurance.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
I would advise everyone to make the most use of all the help the company has to offer - and these can all be easily accessed via the website. There are also specific teams to get in touch with for a variety of specific roles - this makes the support more tailormade to our needs to ensure our needs and preferences are met.
