Brand and Marketing Student Placement Review

On a day to day basis I am working with both the brand and digital teams in marketing. Working on social media, filming and editing content, the website, Letters, emails, events and more.

Yes, from day one I had lots of responsibility. But it was given to me once I felt confident enough. I was provided sufficient training throughout my placement and given increasing responsibility throughout. For example I have filmed, edited and scheduled social media content from NBS branches. At the start of my placement I went with another colleague to understand how to do all steps of this process. Once I felt ready I was encouraged to do this by myself and had the support there if i needed it.

Yes I have developed my communication, team working, problem solving skills and more. I wouldn't have been able to develop these without my placement. I have communciated with stakeholders internally and externally and worked on a wide variety of projects that have developed these skills. this placement has been so valuable to me and my career progression.

Throughout my placement I had lots of support. We started with the Early Talent Program which we have had support throughout the whole year. Additional to this we also had our line manager who was there for any work related questions, support or problems. We also had a mentor who was someone not in your department of business who we could go to with for extra support. On top of this we had a buddy, which was someone who had been through the Early Talent programme before.
Overall we had lots of support and if i did have problems, questions. I knew I always had someone to go to.

The company culture was really goof. they have 5 behaviours that we are aware of from day one. the comapny has lots of ways to show recognition for the work you have done like awards days/night and magic moments.
The company general atmosphere is amazing and everyone is so friendly and welcoming and supportive

I absolutely loved my placement. Before applying I was unsure on whether to do one or just go straight to my finally year and graduate. But I am so glad I have done one. The experience i have gotten is next to none and i feel more than ready to take on final year of university and progress from there. I am so much more confident and have so many more skills. I would recommend anyone to do a placement at Newcastle Building Society.
