Intern Review

6 week internship program at Lockton. The primary objective was to gain insight into the insurance industry.
There was a nice balance between learning in interactive-style lectures which are lead by senior brokers across all areas of the business and delivering real impact. Additionally, each intern is part of a respective team and works on a business assignment with actual business impact. Also, you are grouped into teams of interns and present a research project to a panel at the end of the program.

I was given real responsibly within my business assignment projects. I networked across the business to gain information whilst giving a holistic understanding of my team and each individuals function. Further, I was able to present my findings to heads of departments helping determine the overall strategy of my team.

I developed both my technical and soft skills.
Via interactive lectures we were able to get a general overview of each business unit. Then within your placement, interns developed sector specific knowledge and skills. It was rewarding to be able to apply these in the business assignment and innovation project.
In terms of soft skills, it was very useful to learn key presentation and communication skills from various workshops and talks.

Managers adapted their teaching approach to my preference. I was very grateful because I enjoyed tackling things myself first and then asking for help later.

The company culture is unique, I found the Lockton culture overall to be one where everyone wants to bring the best version out of you and they really care about your long term development.

I had a great internship experience, helping me gain insight into the insurance industry and building an incredible network of talented employees and mentors to learn from. The application at the end of the internship was very rewarding via project presentations to heads of departments.
