Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
• Supported the month-end close process by resolving accounting issues, preparing account reconciliations, and recording standard and complex journal entries, including intercompany and accruals.
• Helped reconcile intercompany transactions across the group, working to resolve any differences and ensure accurate group reporting.
• Assisted in preparing supporting documents and reconciliations for quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, including audit requests for Travelport Group.
• Prepared and worked with key financial reports such as balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany recharges, general ledger loan balances for tax, depreciation close packs etc using financial systems including Oracle Financial, Cognos, Orbit Analytics, Cadency, and OneSource.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement at Travelport. I played a key role in the month-end close process, preparing account reconciliations and handling both standard and complex journal entries, including intercompany transactions and accruals. Beyond core accounting tasks, I took ownership of leading a corporate social responsibility (CSR) day, coordinating logistics and volunteer involvement across teams. I was also part of high-impact projects, including developing new financial KPIs aligned with the company’s strategic goals and presenting a winning social media strategy to the CEO as part of an innovation challenge. These opportunities not only deepened my technical skills but also enhanced my leadership, teamwork, and communication abilities.

There was a strong emphasis on teamwork and knowledge-sharing, which made it easy to learn and contribute meaningfully, even as an intern. Travelport fostered a culture of innovation and openness — evidenced by initiatives like the intern innovation challenge, where our ideas were taken seriously and presented directly to the CEO. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Travelport to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Travelport
My advice to others applying to Travelport would be to show genuine curiosity, be proactive, and highlight both your technical and soft skills. Travelport values interns who are eager to learn and ready to contribute from day one. Be open to getting involved beyond your core role — whether that’s volunteering for cross-team projects or contributing to company-wide challenges. These experiences really helped me stand out and gain exposure to different areas of the business. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek feedback; the team is incredibly supportive, and making the most of that guidance will really accelerate your development.
