Talent Acquisition/HR Intern Review

My role involved owning the end to end hiring process for the intern cohort for 2025/26. This involved working with external stakeholders to advertise roles, reviewing applications and shortlisting candidates for the assessment centre, organising and running the assessment centre and facilitating onboarding for a cohort of 10 interns. Further, I organised development sessions which benefitted the global intern program and worked on projects to create the best in class candidate experience. Day-to-day I worked on various projects; recruitment for the intern program, organising development sessions, running HR onboarding sessions and worked on projects to solve real business problems in the business such as creating a social media strategy for the CEO.

Yes I was given lots of responsibility and autonomy during the placement. I was able to take control and complete tasks in the manner I felt best whilst also receiving support where needed.

I was able to learn role related skills such as how to use oracle people. Further I also developed some of my existing skills such as organisation, time management, people management and emotional intelligence.
The placement organised a range of learning and development sessions to aid development in a range of areas such as soft skills, travelport specific skills and life skills.

I received support and training from my manager as well as my team - they helped me with various projects such as recruiting for the 26/27 intern cohort, recruiting for experienced hires and updating team materials. Further, I received support from the intern panel who supported with organising opportunities for me to develop skills outside of my role. In addition, previous interns and assigned mentors provided support and were great sounding boards in navigating my first experience of the corporate world.

The company culture was very warm and welcoming. Members of the SLT and VPs were always open to connecting and chatting and supporting the emerging talent at Travelport. Experienced employees and teams made an effort to ensure interns settled into their roles well and were included in every way possible.

I thoroughly enjoyed the placement experience and it exceeded my expectations for the year. I was given lots of responsibility in projects and felt my manager trusted the decisions I made. Outside of my day-to-day role, I enjoyed participating in CSR activities and development sessions. The placement wasn't solely about the role but developing the intern to support future career development.
