Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role involved using software such as Power BI to build dashboards that used different company data sources to help drive strategic decision making, such as which airline we should partner with.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I took ownership of a major long term project, as well as the chance to assist numerous other projects

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The guidance was there if I needed it, but it was mostly remotely done which was hard at times. Overall, the support was good.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere lacked in terms of vibrancy and enthusiasm. Unfortunately for Travelport, they have had to close two of their floors in the office since covid due to remote working. Therefore the office felt quiet most of the time. There is lack of company culture, which can be demotivating at times. It would suit someone who is looking to work remote and does not care about having a strong team culture.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed working at Travelport for a year, but would most likely not return as a graduate due to the lack of company culture and atmosphere. However, the skills I have learnt have been important for my professional growth and I am confident I have a competitive edge now over those students in my field who did not take a placement year.

What advice would you give to others applying to Travelport
Be prepared to have lots of responsibility and independent work. You need to have a strong work ethic and motivation. The effort you put in to the placement is what you will get out of it, so make the most of the 12 months by taking on all the opportunities you can.
