Materials Industrial Placement Review

The Materials Industrial Placement role includes several key responsibilities, including failure analysis, material qualification, and reporting. In my role, I have specialised in composites, and have been involved in several key projects for both the current and future cars.
Daily tasks involve both office and lab-based work, with key priorities being set out at the start of the week. I have also had the opportunity to work with external suppliers on various key materials projects.

I was given key responsibilities across multiple areas, and had the opportunity to lead my own projects. Across my placement, I have always felt like my work was important and meaningful to the team

Technical skills- Developed my lab testing skills, and learned key technical report writing skills. I have also learned how to use multiple different business software, including CAD, PLM, and our manufacture scheduling software. I've gained a large amount of technical knowledge in composite materials.
Soft skills- I've greatly improved my time management and organisation skills, as well as developing my teamwork skills. I've also learned how to communicate professionally and efficiently.

I received a good level of support from my department and line manager, as well as the early careers team.

Williams has a good company culture and general atmosphere.

My placement year has been nothing short of incredible- I have enjoyed every minute of it.
