Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Everyday is usually different. Majority of days are spent at my desk using Siemens NX and CAD'ing. Designing anything from upgrades on the bodywork or floor or front wing, to repairs schemes for the trackside team. Some days will also be spent helping manufacture, whether it is 3D scans of a part or assembly to check it is within the FIA legality boxes. Or clarification of laminate or the tooling during the build.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
During this placement I have been given more responsibility than I could have imagined. I have designed large and important parts from start to finish as individual projects. As both launch spec parts and upgrade parts.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
List of new skills I have learnt coming from university to here is vast. To start, all parts of engineering I have been doing at Williams have improved 10x, be that my CAD skills, composite knowledge, technical drawings etc.
I have developed my communication skills greatly. Most parts require collaboration with different teams like aero, stress, mechanical, off car engineer and more depending on the project. Being able to communicate my ideas across effectively to these teams has been very important and a great learning experience.
