Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an ICT technician, with Nexus rail is to undergo and faults or maintenance with the communications team. For example some of our kit involves, CCTV, Help points, Speakers and networking for each of our 60 stations. This job includes lots of tool work, electrical safety, etc. My supervisors also make sure I'm in the loop with everything the team needs and what goals i have hit and what i could work better, this is so that i get the most out of my apprenticeship at Nexus.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy being an apprentice within Nexus as other employees with the company are super friendly and very understanding when it comes to learning on the job. Also I really love the work my job in general involves, finding out how faults occur and how to resolve them. Finally I also like the fact my company gets all the apprentices together once every 3 months to do team building skills, talk about how our apprenticeship is going and if there is anything they would like the company to improve upon.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many skills, my main one would be my tool work as I went into my apprenticeship as a total beginner. I have also learnt communication skills and people skills with me recently becoming a apprentice ambassador for Nexus. this includes me going into, schools, colleges and internal events to talk to people interested in becoming an apprentice. The main skill I have learnt whilst at Nexus is problem solving and figuring out where a fault might of happened for example.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Nexus Rail is really organised in terms of getting apprentices on board and helping them resolve any issues all employees have. All the apprentices I have spoke to all seem really organised in the way they have prepared for an event or a job they have in place.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support from my supervisors whether its work related or not, I receive a lot from the learning development team when I have a day with them once every 3 months and a lot more guidance and support via email.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training providers are very good at making sure I am up to date with all of my work. My tutor has us on time to finish our first year of college early as we have worked hard within our first year. I also have a mentor come in once a month to speak to me about how things are going within work and also to look at my on the job hours and also my job reports making I'm up to date with everything from that perspective.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
From what I have learnt so far quite a lot weather that is From a health and safety perspective, reminding me how to work safely and not cause any harm to myself or others. I have also thought that the mechanical principles topic has helped me to undergo jobs better in the maths perspective.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, I am always getting emails about sporting events, clubs to join and also voluntary stuff such as one i done to become a apprentice ambassador. this includes me talking in schools, colleges and many more places to encourage people to do apprenticeships and talk about the positive whilst also labelling any possible downsides an apprenticeship can have. The type of voluntary work means that I can get my name out there in a positive way and improve my career.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Nexus to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommended Nexus to a lot of people as its a very friendly work environment and the perks that come with the job are really good one for example in free public transport up and down the north east. I would also recommend Nexus as they do often put people through qualifications and also have there own learning centre to boost employees CV's and get them more qualifications if so wanted.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nexus?
I would say to be confident in any interactions you may face during applying for Nexus and just to not stress about anything as the majority of employees are quite relaxed and just want a good employee, who's friendly, happy, confident and also eager to work.
