Apprenticeship Carpenter Review

I assist and learn from other carpenters on site as well as get given my own work to complete. These tasks could be things like fitting doors, door linings, wall/ceiling panels, building frames, wardrobes, vanity units etc.

The apprenticeship is well organized and structured. CFS provides good apprentice benefits and bonuses such as apprentice of the month awards and team building activities. Apprentices are well looked after in college and on site. The activity record system helps with creating our portfolios because we are required to send in weekly evidence of the work we do on site. Not only does this give us many pieces of evidence to choose from it also ensures that we do our work on site.

I receive a lot of support from CFS, especially with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] in the office who help all across aspects of the programme, and also help on site from supervisors. CFS also help financially as they provide a tool hire system, awards and bonuses. CFS also provide many opportunities during the apprenticeship to be qualified in other aspects in health and safety such as building and checking equipment used for working at height, PAT Testing electrical equipment and fire safety.

I receive lots of support from New City College as well. They also help with creating our portfolios and help us to prepare for our end point assessments with lots of personal attention from teachers to ensure we are perfecting our work skills covering all grounds of carpentry whether that is bench joinery or site fitting. New City also provide frequent progress checks to make sure we are getting through our apprenticeships and are also there to help with any hurdles that are either in college or on site.

I feel as though attending New City at college and working for CFS go together as my skills from both places translate to the other. Lots of hand skills and other methods to complete work I have learned at college have become very useful on site. I also feel as though the qualification helps me to reach a standard that is required on site.

I would definitely recommend CFS to anyone who wishes to do a carpentry apprenticeship. Apprentices are taken care of in and out of work and provide opportunities to do work for big companies such as Apple, Snapchat and TikTok.
