Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Provision of administrative support for programme renewals such as creating renewal questionnaires and market submissions as well as post renewal work such as drafting allocations, preparing invoices. Also building relationships in the market as well as with clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed having a cohort of other apprentices and the structured learning, I have a great early careers team who are incredibly supportive who made the journey smoother and more enjoyable but I did struggle finding the relevance of some of the Davies learning and the coaches I was given as i found them less supportive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my knowledge of computer systems both internal and external, such as Microsoft systems etc. I have also developed in my communication skills and my ability to build professional relationships and learned how to conduct myself in a professional setting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think it was well structured and the path was very clear once explained. I knew the steps i had to take and when they needed to be completed by. However, some of the coaches were less organised and lacked initiative.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A large amount - the early careers team have regular sessions to help assist with finishing the programme and anything you may be struggling with. They are also great in making sure my team understood the importance of my apprenticeship and the time it required to help me find a balance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They made me aware of all of the resources available such as the resources on Thrive as well as a Tutor ,we also arranged regular weekly catch ups when i was studying for my exams to discuss progress and get tips.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it improved my soft skills such as time management and understanding of corporate roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, lots of organised networking events internally and externally, sports teams which compete with other people in the market as well as internal activities such as book clubs and lunch and learns to learn about the industry and insurance as well as cultural topics.

Why?
I think they have a great culture, the people are friendly and actively try to help you. They are great at making sure people of all levels get great opportunities and they have various sectors deepening on your interest and what you'd like to specialise. It's large enough that there is ample for growth opportunity while still feeling valued.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lockton?
if you're applying for an apprenticeship be honest in transparent in what interests you, this means they'll have an idea on the best place to place you when you join. Ask questions, that way you can assess if Lockton is the best place for you.
