Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a social work apprentice, my role involves both hands-on experience and academic study as I train to become a qualified social worker. Every day, I support individuals and families who are facing challenges such as poverty, addiction, mental health struggles, or child welfare concerns.
I work closely with experienced social workers, learning from them by shadowing visits, participating in case discussions, and gaining insight into best practices. A key part of my role is conducting assessments to gather information about a person’s situation and determine the support they need. I also engage with communities, working alongside schools, hospitals, and charities to ensure people receive the necessary care.
Balancing work and study is a big part of my apprenticeship. I attend training sessions and complete coursework to build my theoretical knowledge, which I then apply in real-life situations. I am responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation, ensuring compliance with safeguarding regulations. Collaboration is crucial in my role—I frequently liaise with doctors, teachers, police officers, and other professionals to coordinate services effectively.
Through this apprenticeship, I am developing the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to become a fully qualified social worker, all while making a meaningful impact on the lives of the people I support.
