This role conducts maintenance work/repairs on both mechanical and electrical systems within passenger trains.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme I am enrolled in is great for myself, I enjoy working with my hands in an engineering environment but I also want a qualification to partner with my experience. My course gives me exposure to all kinds of engineering skills which greatly improves my professional abilities.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have massively developed my hand skills in terms of using tools and equipment. I also have a much better understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and how they work conjunctively. I have also developed great networking skills throughout my apprenticeship.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structuring of my apprenticeship is overwhelming positive, being in the workplace right at the start of my apprenticeship has accelerated my learning beyond what a college could deliver.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I believe I have full backing from my employer, they are eager to put young people into technical roles and have wide support networks available to facilitate that.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has excellent, industry specific, facilities to provide me the best education. I have great contact with my tutors and a number of experienced engineers to be able to support me through my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The specialist courses available from my training provider enable me to carry out work within a depot environment through understanding the systems and how they should be maintained. The coursework I do towards my qualification directly correlates to the role I undertake in my workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been to numerous networking and social events during my apprenticeship. some of those have been offered to me by my training provider whilst others have been available through my employer. I feel as if there is a great importance placed on my apprenticeship for me to be involved in those experiences.

Why?
The benefits of working for Siemens are incredible. There is a massive emphasis placed on employee wellbeing and I feel as if I am valued at work, despite not being as skilled or experience as my colleagues. There is a strong dedication to upskill employees across the business which leaves individuals with a good professional standing.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Experience is greatly valued, whilst people can have the ability to learn and pick up new skills, having a strong foundation built from working with mechanical or electrical systems at any level would be beneficial. This would not only help to secure a role within the company but aid you in learning the role as well.
