Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Dispensing glasses for patients, fitting frames for customers collecting their glasses, scheduling different types of appointments for customers ordering stock items for shop floor, checking in glasses orders that have arrived from the lab, adjustments and repairs for customers that have broken or are unhappy with their glasses and pretesting patients for the optometrist
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I found working as an optical assistant to be quite interesting, but also quite challenging, at times pushing me out of my comfort zone but I feel I have learned a lot from this that I can apply to other aspects of life

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

How to work better as a team, improved organisational skills, how to work independently, improved my maths especially price calculations and offer discounts and essay writing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I feel that the programme was well structured to an extent, I think at times it could have been carried out better, especially in terms of my online learning hours that were required as initially I wasn't getting enough time from store so I fell behind on meeting criteria.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I think I received sufficient support from my employer, they have been very supportive throughout the apprenticeship however there have been some times where I haven't received support and sought it through my Apprentice coaching team instead
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received a lot of support from my training providers, and I think they were very supportive and helpful whenever I had any questions regarding the material and skills I was learning during the course of the apprenticeship and gave me constructive feedback that I used to improve my skills.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think my qualification helps me to perform better in my role quite well, I think the training and learning material that I did for the qualification has helped to improve the skills required for the role
