Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I get given a list of jobs to complete, including fitting jobs. I am using the sparkerroder machine and deburr. I work on different assembly jobs also.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning at work and developing my skills. I attend college 1 day a week and feel I learn more in the workplace as it is more specialised. It is a lot of theory work in college so coming to work is more enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt fitting. It wasn't something i had done in depth prior to starting with the company and my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I think the college could improve on how the course is structured to suit more workplaces. It can be hard to find off the job hours to cover the required 900.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I get quite a bit of support, I can go to my line manager whenever I need any help. I can even approach my director if the works manager isn't available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I feel my tutor could be of more support, I see him every 6 weeks and we discuss online job hours but other then that I feel it is more beneficial to speak to my employer rather than the tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I began a machining apprenticeship 2 years ago, I am now also working in the fitting department and have been given the opportunity to take on a fitting course for the next year. I feel this will help to improve my skills and knowledge, and behaviours. I think that it will stand out on my CV for possible future employers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have works do's through the year which is nice. I also had the opportunity to visit Rolls Royce who are one of our customers. The day was interesting and I was pleased to be invited.

It is a big company and you have the opportunity to move around group and progress. It is flexible.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hyde Group?
Have an idea of the company prior to applying to make sure it's something you will be interested in. If you are coming from college you will be able to go on tours of the sites, make sure you do that.
