Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Spent the day balancing fellowship management and coaching practice. Held check-ins with early career researchers, supported development planning, and coordinated with internal teams. Applied coaching techniques in conversations, focusing on active listening and reflection. Progressed my coaching apprenticeship by attending a webinar and logging evidence for my portfolio.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my coaching apprenticeship. It’s both challenging and rewarding, offering valuable opportunities to develop practical skills and reflect on my approach. I particularly enjoy applying coaching techniques in real-world situations and seeing the positive impact on others’ growth and development. It feels very fulfilling.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I’ve enhanced my active listening and questioning skills. I’ve also refined my ability to guide others in reflective practice, helping individuals explore challenges and develop solutions. Additionally, I’ve deepened my understanding of coaching frameworks and their application in real-world scenarios.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well-structured, offering a good balance of self-led learning and varied activities. I appreciate the flexibility and the opportunity to explore different aspects of coaching at my own pace. However, I’d enjoy more interaction with others in the apprenticeship to share insights and experiences collaboratively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive strong support from my employer, with regular check-ins and opportunities to apply what I’m learning in real-world contexts. There’s a clear commitment to my development, including access to relevant resources and mentoring. However, more peer interaction and group learning opportunities would further enhance my experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive great, enthusiastic support from my skills coach, who is always responsive and motivating. They provide valuable guidance, feedback, and encouragement, ensuring I stay on track with my qualifications. Their approach helps me stay engaged and confident in applying what I’m learning throughout the apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification has significantly improved my ability to perform in my role. The skills and frameworks I’ve learned have enhanced my coaching practice, enabling me to support colleagues more effectively, foster deeper reflection, and guide individuals through challenges. It’s directly impacting my confidence and effectiveness at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
While my apprenticeship is part-time, I know apprentices are well-integrated members of the team and have access to various activities. Although less relevant to my current schedule, I’m aware of social events, professional networking opportunities, and team-building activities that support connection and development within the organization.
