Treasury Student Placement Review

I assist in the long term funding strategy of the organisation, primarily working with the capital markets team to raise long term debt through market issuance. On a day to day basis, my role revolves around monitoring of our current funding programs while supporting and developing any additional programs.

An outstanding amount of responsibility was given to me during my placement. A culture of trust exists at the Society allowing placement students to take on increasing responsibility through demonstration of knowledge and skill development. This is partially derived from the small teams and thorough training provided at Newcastle Building Society.

- Developed strong knowledge of the intricacies of the capital markets through end-to-end issuances processes in a mutal institution.
- Enhanced financial modelling skills through frequent practice on multiple deals
- Expanded soft skills around corporate communication, networking and relationship building

Various support networks were provided from the Early Talent team framework and the on-boarding process. Additionally, regular support is always available from peers and managers through the open and transparent culture embedded within the organization.

A very pleasant and positive atmosphere allowing for a culture where questions and curiosity is embraced.

I have enjoyed my placement greatly, mostly through the engaging nature of the work and key responsibilities given to placement students. Newcastle Building Society has also been a very pleasant place to blend of a relaxed yet focused culture within the Treasury team.
