Working on insurance java microservices, peer-reviewing code, interacting with DevOps to deliver BAU changes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the new challenges I get each day and like the frequency of team events. I appreciate the support and encouragement I get.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Java development, test-driven development, use of copilot to enhance efficiency, agile scrum methodology, version management, coding standards

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

QA have laid out clear terms and modules for my degree and The AA have placed my in a team that works in 2 week sprint cycles. So I always know where I am and the work that needs to be done.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have regular 1 to 1 meetings with my manager to discuss concerns and opportunities for me and how the organisation can support me through my degree, especially in the area of exposure to new technologies across digital.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have review meetings with my DLC (university contact/tutor) in which I can voice concerns. Also they are quick to respond to questions via email.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Currently my qualification is giving me a broad digital technology knowledge which allows me to work in context better. Future modules will give me specific knowledge which I will use in my day to day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are quarterly off-site department events which are used for a variety of purposes from ideation and innovation to summer bbqs.

We are a heritage brand who are embracing the latest and best technologies to out compete competitors and deliver the best service to our members. I find it satisfying to see the services out on the road knowing that I contributed a small part towards that outcome.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
Want to be part of a team that delivers for people when they are in trouble. Think about the next generation of drivers and how The AA can remain relevant with them. These points will come up in interviews/assessment centres and are good to have at the forefront of your mind.
