Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The programme ran a daily schedule of events and included presentations from bankers in different divisions of Rothschild and Co, a workshop on the fundamentals of investment banking, networking sessions with an analyst buddy, and group work on a presentation for a mock acquisition opportunity. There was also a social event, and a Global Advisory case study.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The programme provided exposure to many different bankers of varying levels of experience, and so we could speak to lots of people about their role and learn about what they do at Rothschild and Co. Even though the programme was focused on the Global Advisory division, the programme allowed time to hear from bankers in other areas such as Wealth Management. This helped to gain perspective on all the roles available at the firm.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes - for me, the group project was a particular highlight as presenting to senior bankers was something that I had not previously done. Although daunting, I learned a lot about group work with people I had only just met and especially presenting in this time; I know this will be very useful in the future.
We also had an external IB workshop that developed my IB fundamentals understanding.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture for me was a highlight of the whole experience. Every person that I spoke to spoke very highly of the culture at Rothschild and Co, and this was evident from the way that people spoke about their work and their colleagues. For example, many people that I spoke to used words such as 'supportive' and 'family-like'.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
Greatly! I learned a huge amount about the industry and the firm, met some great people that I will stay in contact with, and really enjoyed the whole insight. Even though just a 4-day long programme, I was able to push myself in the project work and really gained from it. It was a great balance of listening to speakers and asking questions, and working hard in a group to achieve a goal.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co
Make sure you actually understand what the firm does and how it operates differently to its competitors.
Even though this programme is an insight, places are competitive and many people on the programme already had a decent amount of industry knowledge and had often already completed internships. This doesn't mean you need much formal knowledge to gain a place, but you need to understand what the firm does and a bit about the industry.
