Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My responsibilities vary regularly, I undertake a variety of tasks from preparing presentations, using QGIS, AutoCAD, traffic modelling software and writing planning application comments. I produce stakeholder engagement material and technical documents. I attend meetings, respond to important emails and conduct research for my University coursework. I have responsibilities and I get to teach myself a lot of new skills and information and learn from others in the team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme. I have the flexibility and opportunity to choose the range and depth of skills I learn. There is a good balance between University and work which boosts my productivity and time management.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt lots of new skills. I understand the basic functions of QGIS, AutoCAD and Linsig software. I have developed planning, organisation and communication skills. I have learnt about transport planning and project management processes and the series of steps that must be taken to progress a scheme from concept to delivery.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My University modules are well structured, we cover a different module each week that we are in. My workload involves a series of exciting projects at different stages and it is my responsibility to track my progress and highlight areas requiring improvement in order to achieve the qualification.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer allows me enough time to complete my University coursework on the job which is very beneficial. My team supports me when I have questions surrounding the work. The team is collaborative and kind.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider, which is my University and lecturers, are approachable by email when needed. We also have a coach who is available to discuss any University or workplace concerns.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think that the academic learning compliments the job well as it encourages me to enjoy researching and the continuation of learning. There is taught knowledge I can apply to the workplace and it is important in order to understand features of the wider transport planning network.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are semi frequent networking opportunities from visiting WMCA and consultants offices for meetings, training and events.
