Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a cyber security analyst in the Security Operations team. I am responsible for monitoring security alerting tooling, responding to security incidents, analysing suspicious emails and responding to phishing campaigns, troubleshooting and tuning of security tooling, and coordinating penetration testing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
It's a great programme (although a bit intense at times), full time work and come out with a degree after a few years.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Absolutely. I've learnt loads about general IT operations, security monitoring, vulnerability management, change management, project management, security tooling, and general work skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It's a degree from the OU, so very organised. Clearly defined modules with clear progression and output.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Gives me opportunities to gain experience in different areas at work, flexibility for when I need extra study time, and everyone I've spoken to at the company is happy to assist me with work-related projects done as part of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get all the support I need. The tutor for each module is always available by email, student forums have moderators assisting, and I have a tutor to guide me throughout the program.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Parts of it are more relevant and parts are less - that's the nature of a wide-ranging degree covering multiple different aspects of computing. All are valuable for the workplace, and I joined because I wanted a broader understanding of computing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are some available, but I'm not often involved.
