Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Providing all aspects of the optical journey to customers (pre screening before they see the optometrist, helping style and choose their glasses once their appointment is over, putting through the dispense for the customer and doing collections of glasses once they have been delivered back from the lab. The job also involves handling any difficult situations (with help from colleagues) if something doesnt go to plan with any of these steps.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Optics is a very broad area so sometimes I did feel like I wasn't going to know everything I needed to, which led to me being a bit overwhelmed for a short bit but help from my coaches and colleagues got me through this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Increased my confidence in general but more specifically increased confidence when speaking to other people as the entire job is customer facing. It has also taught me how to overcome issues when things go wrong or when there is a hard task as before I may have avoided anything difficult but now I know i can definitely try first and help is there if I need it.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Lots of self led learning but checking in with coaches helped keep on track with this. A lot of the learning is set with objectives in meetings with coaches and you then have to complete these. Having the learning laid out like a to-do list really helped me stick to a structre.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Plenty of support from my colleagues, In store trainers and Dispensing opticians, especially if I was learning about quite a tricky topic that doesnt come up much in day to day work
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of meetings to check up of progress were scheduled, which helped me stay on track with learning. Any weak points I felt I had could be addressed in these sessions which helped with my confidence and any questions I had about thr layout of exams or whay was allowed into exams was answered straight away.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has given me a very good overview of optics and everything I need to be confident on the shop floor and answer customer questions well, but not overloading me with so much information that I couldn't handle it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Out workplace often has outings to dofferent place like restaurant for events or going out for games nights to build more of a team feeling.

Would you recommend Specsavers to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because even though it can be a lot to take in, at the end you do feel very accomplished as you know more about optics than you thought you could at the beginning.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
Do be ready to work hard as there is a lot to know and at times if there is something that comes up you need clarification on or feel like you dont understand, asking colleagues or coaches is the best thing to do instead of staying unsure about it.
