Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working with colleagues in order to deliver the best service possible to patients. Each day relies on a good set of communication and social skills, as well as problem solving. Going through each section of being an optical assistant leaves you with the foundational skillset and knowledge in order to progress to any role you would like. It is challenging in the best way.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
To a vast extent. Of course, it helps that I get on really well with the people I work with, but also the course is very engaging and active, there's a healthy balance of self-led work and guided work, and there is always assistance available if you find yourself stuck.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, absolutely. Not only have I greatly improved in my maths and english as well as communicative and collaborative skills, I have also become a much more confident and outgoing person. Each day is rewarding and I feel that I have accomplished something or developed a new skill every time I leave.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Quite organised. The curriculum is straightforward but also easy to alter to suit your learning style - the off the job learning hours are flexible as every store is different, and it is very clear that the organisers took all types of people and environments into account when creating the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
So much - without being overbearing, and NEVER making you feel like you have too many questions, my employers and supervisors have been AMAZING
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Again, same as before, plenty of support where needed but never seeming patronising
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Absolutely! We have an annual escape room night, as well as Summer Awards evenings and Christmas parties, not to mention that so many of us will meet outside of work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Specsavers to a friend?
Yes
Why?
100% as the resources are amazing, the company is so active when it comes to listening to and engaging with employees.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
Be confident, and trust yourself. My first ever interview was here and I left feeling so happy that I made it to this stage. You know yourself and your limits and that is the strongest quality a person can have.
