Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an Optical assistant, my job role includes dispensing the most suitable frames and lenses for the customer as well as fitting glasses, teaching patients how to insert and remove contact lenses as well as providing information on our hearing services
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I loved my apprenticeship, I was hesitant to start one because I didn’t know what to expect coming straight out of school after A levels but I couldn’t recommend an apprenticeship enough

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over my 1.5 year apprenticeship, my interpersonal communication skills definitely improved, noticed a huge confidence boost. I have become prouder of myself after getting a distinction as I feel more motivated to continue onto more courses, I have started Cert 4

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well structured. All of my coaches have me a well laid out action plan and gave me goals of when to have things completed, I am an organised person anyway so I loved that they also were :)
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot! My managers and colleagues were all rooting for me and congratulated me when my end point assessment results came in
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot! Whenever I have a question or am worried about something, I know who are available to me and how to contact them, as well as receiving an answer very promptly
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps me a lot because knowing I am qualified as an optical assistant now, I know I can be confident in my knowledge
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, we have previously done meals for celebrations and bowling and painting classes
