Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently in the SDC training how to do my role as an engineering fitter. I am learning a range of knowledge and practical experience on/ for electronic , electrical , health and safety and hand skills .
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am enjoying my apprentice as I have been learning a range of practical skills and knowledge within my time within the SDC which should help me in the future in the work place. I have also gained more confidence with my communication and hand skills, leading to myself being able to push and make the most of my time at work. I have been impressed with my instructors and been trying to absorb there never ending knowledge and experience to help me learn , learning about my own job and others within the workplace . I would say the only thing I have not really enjoyed is the lack of organisation and communication within the workplace, as it sometimes feels like there is no structure or plan.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned some hand tool and mechanical equipment experience from the bench fitting activity's. This has increased my confidence and skills in this area which will help me now and in my future. I have also learned how to be safe within the workplace and to look after myself and other people and learned knowledge on electrical and electronic principles, practical skills and fitting within my modules.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
At my time working/ being an apprentice within the SDC I have experienced a lack of organisation/ structure within my program . Some weeks we have a plan and know what we are doing and there is others which feels like no one knows. Another issue I have encountered is that when our instructor is taken away to teach/ instruct other people or has a meeting . There isn't another instructor to take their role which leads to either down time or not needed work which is not linked to our course or learning. I also feel that we could have done more module within my time here as I have only done 2 module so far in 6 months. On the up hand when we start a module and know what we are doing and is well structured it is very well done and I learn a lot and really enjoy it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I been really impressed with my employer and I have received a lot of support for example ; if I get stuck with my work I can always go to my instructor or any of the instructors within the SDC who are all willing to help me. I have also received good help for my dyslexia.
