Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
A good company with steady employment, but lack of official technical training.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Test and commission systems which are installed on submarines - the most enjoyable aspect is the practical/physical testing of the systems.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
The subteams within the department are smaller and split between shifts so everyone's presence and contribution genuinely affects the day-to-day activity of the team.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
The pay is pretty good - especially uplift from shift work. Test and commissioning can be tedious and you must be patient being downstream of all other departments so I feel the pay uplift is vital. The details other departments might miss MUST be picked up by Test and Commissioning, otherwise the consequences could be devastating.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
The role is good experience to have as not many get the chance to work on submarine projects, yet it still allows you to work on commonly-seen systems within the engineering sector.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
It can take a while for testing to become available so it's not constant

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Support from line manager is excellent due to daily interactions.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Work-life balance on shift work is perfect - everyone is contracted to 37 hours a week and any time worked after that is overtime - overtime opportunities are good.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
No clue.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
1/5
I haven't noticed or been involved in any of these types of initiatives

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good money
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do some research before final interview.
