Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Software Engineering Apprentice at LBG, I contribute to development projects and enhance software functionality. My daily tasks include coding, attending agile meetings, and collaborating with teammates. I also engage in learning activities, ensuring I build both technical and problem-solving skills in real-world scenarios.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy the programme as it provides hands-on experience, structured learning, and opportunities for personal growth. Working on real projects while being mentored by experienced engineers has been invaluable. Additionally, the strong community of apprentices and engagement in networking events make the experience even more fulfilling.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I've developed my hard skills in Java, JavaScript and SQL. My soft skills, such as communication, colleague engagement, and teamwork, have also significantly developed. Applying these skills to real projects has strengthened my problem-solving ability and confidence in software development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is fairly well-structured, beginning with foundational training before transitioning into hands-on experience within a team. The balance between apprenticeship responsibilities and practical work is effective, though it requires self-discipline and initiative. Regular check-ins with managers and the apprenticeship provider ensure that progress is tracked and support is available.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
LBG provides excellent support through mentorship, line managers, and peer networks. While the quality of support varies, my colleagues encourage continuous learning and development, offering guidance on career growth. The apprenticeship community is also highly active, making it easy to connect with others for support, whether technical or career-related.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider delivers structured lessons covering key technical concepts, complemented by additional resources for self-study. Bi-monthly one-to-one sessions help track progress and clarify doubts. Proactive communication ensures access to useful materials and guidance needed to succeed in writing portfolios and practical applications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification provides a strong theoretical foundation, covering coding principles, software lifecycle management, and security best practices. While some topics may not relate to all, they reinforce skills that directly enhance my work. Combining this structured learning with hands-on experience allows me to apply best practices effectively in real-world scenarios.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of extra-curricular opportunities, including networking events, hackathons, and social groups. I’ve participated in work engagement squads, professional networks within and outside LBG (LGB supported), and hosted development workshops. These activities not only enhance my skills but also help in build connections across different teams and departments.
