Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The job involves spending 20% of your time studying. This can be through mandatory training or courses that may benefit your career.
The other 80% is spent doing hands on work. For me this has involved performing testing at many different levels, E.g. CUT, SIT, NFT etc. And working on multiple projects to diversify your skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I've enjoyed it a lot as it has help me learn new skills and progress my career

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have learnt many new programming languages and testing tools. Along with common work skills such as communication or time management. You are free to learn any new skills you would like and are even provided with multiple different learning platforms to help you do so.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Could be structured slightly better although no fault of IBM. The only issue I had was that our previous apprenticeship provider could no longer provide for us and so we had to transfer to another provider. This process did take some time however there were no major hiccups once the transfer was complete
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Plenty of support is given if necessary or requested. You have many different people to reach out to if needed and everyone is very welcoming.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider will always ask any questions you have and from monthly meetings with them they will assign goals and targets to reach to help you work towards to qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps a huge amount, from the course that you are required to do you get to learn a lot about software testing and almost instantly apply this knowledge into your projects.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are always networking and social events going on. There are practice wide events and within projects they have events to. With IBM having locations scattered all around, events take place in different areas to accommodate everyone

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great company to work for as they provide you with a lot of opportunities to further you knowledge and skills. As well as being a great place to network with other people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
It is not going to be easy, but as long as you put in the effort you will see the results.
