Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As a DevOps Engineer I tend to work with both software and the cloud to maintain uptime through automated processes. Scenarios include setting up infrastructure for the cloud, running tests through written code, and automating deployments whilst keeping in mind security practices.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme since it has given me insights both into the working world, and to be able to have skills in an ever-growing industry that is always changing. DevOps is unique in the fact that it is a culture of learning to make improvements where possible through automation.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt major practices from how to build pipelines effectively and use different tools you may encounter in DevOps, from infrastructure, to testing and monitoring, to general purpose programming and to automate where needed to maintain efficiency.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Since DevOps is a culture and includes many tools, the programme manages to give a rounded view of what you may expect as a DevOps Engineer, but other roles too, such as an SRE and Software Engineer. The courses helped give an overview on some of the tools you may encounter, allowing you to find out what other similar tools you may use, such as cloud platforms.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The employer has helped by being very supportive, especially during challenges we may be facing both in our job and the apprenticeship. Everyone wants you to succeed and they will try to help you where possible, and they are always open for a chat to work things out. They give us the time to study and also provide invaluable learning resources.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider has given us some courses and residential to help build technological skills in a broad basis, the largest being how to use cloud platforms. The support from the training provider has been friendly and positive, willing to help out and give feedback where they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification has been able to give me broad overview of practices and scenarios that I may expect as a DevOps Engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have had networking events, especially one's where people can learn together to achieve a new skill. We do have some social events, including a games night, where everyone plays an online game to get to know eachother. There are also opportunities known as "giveback" to network and learn something new!
