3/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working with clients and delivering digital solutions through ongoing projects with them. Currently billed as contingent labour working as part of my clients product team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It was enjoyable and achievable but some of the training quality wasn't amazing. The curriculum was too heavily linked to theory and not practice in my opinion.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Since when? Not in the last two months but over the course of the apprenticeship, yes - loads

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Not very well organised, I was the first cohort to go through the degree and they hadn't got everything figured out for us by the time we needed to know certain aspects around assignments and dates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A lot, very regular contact with colleagues both in person and virtually. Frequent enough reviews and meetings with management where I felt they actually cared about my development and progression.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Sprint contact - meaning the time we were at uni was OK; however the time outside of that was poor. IQA sessions were scheduled in for each module though a lot of these got cancelled or weren't planned effectively.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Very well, I feel much more confident in my ability and knowledge to provide my expertise to clients
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, there's a lot available, but I don't really have time for a lot of these outside of working hours due to personal commitments and work-life balance.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very good community of intelligent, driven people that care. Management are very supportive and understanding, and the portfolio of clients to work with is outstanding.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be yourself, they value that
