Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves collaborating with a global team to create a good experience for users of IBM products. This means I do user research, take those insights to inform design decisions, create wireframes and prototypes, test these with users and also take part in design critiques to improve and get feedback.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying my program and have learned a lot through my time on this course. I have been given opportunities to work on different things on my project and explore different roles that I may be interested in such as visual design or research. I am enjoying continuing with UX.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed existing presenting skills and learned about the art of storytelling. This is a key aspect of advocating for my designs and I have had opportunities to present in larger audiences. I have also developed leadership skills and continue to do so in my role on this project.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My course at university has been well structured with sprints and set assignments. However, at times it has not been very organized when we are on campus. Many times it has involved the class waiting around for hours as there was nothing planned for us. Otherwise it is generally well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support form my employer. My manager and team is very understanding when I have university assignment deadlines and offer me the time to get these done. They have also been supportive with helping and offering ideas when needed. They also support with ensuring I have evidence for my KSBs.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive support from my training provider through the lecturers. If I need support on assignments they are available for any questions through email or Interactive Q&A sessions scheduled in. I also have a skills coach who is supportive for any other queries I have or if I need other support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel my qualification is helping me to perform better in my job because we are learning up-to-date knowledge that some of the team in my role may not know. It gives me a strong foundation going into my role and I have built on this through my time on the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I get involved in many extra-curricular activities at work, which are called give-back projects. I have mentored students, represented IBM at careers fairs, ran events for National Apprenticeship Week, supported university projects, enlightened aspiring apprentices about my journey to this role. I have also been part of communities at work such as Wellbeing and Pastoral care.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend IBM to a friend because they are a big company, based all over the world. The company is full of nice people who are always willing to help. There are so many opportunities available when working here and it is a great place to work with flexibility.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
I would advise applying as soon as applications are open. Research the company and think about why you would be a good fit as well as why IBM would be a good fit for you. Most importantly, you have to sell yourself and be authentic so they can see what kind of person you are.
