Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a JMC apprentice, I have the ability to try out a range of roles with differing experiences. I am currently a Software Tester (going down a technical route). On a day-to-day basis, I get to work with the testing of our developing applications. This includes ensuring all functionality works at expected, analysing the data from the results and developing scripts to help automate the testing processes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The JMC programme has aspects in different areas which are very enjoyable! I enjoy working with my team and other apprentices, whom I now consider to be friends more than anything. There are always socials being planned, giving us the opportunity to have fun outside of our work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
More than I can count! As part of the JMC Programme, you will have the chance to develop soft skills (communication, teamwork, adaptability etc) through a mix of hands-on and theory based learning, earning credentials and certifications as you progress.
I also have had plenty of opportunities to learn and progress in other skills, whether it be technical (Cloud such as AWS/Azure, AI, Programming etc) or non technical (Soft skills, Project Management, Analysis etc).
I also have access to different platforms such as IBM SkillsBuild and Udemy.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The JMC Apprenticeship at IBM is very well thought out. We get given a training roadmap, which allows us to develop in all areas and is constantly being updated. The foundation team are always there for support us if we have any issues. I have regular meetings with my Manager to discuss my current progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The foundation team at IBM are always there to support us as apprentices / early professionals. I also have regular meetings with my Manager to discuss anything that I may need support with. Overall, I receive a lot of support - whether it be help with my apprenticeship or support with my project work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As an apprentice, I have one day a week dedicated to my learning. There are always people I can turn to for support no matter what qualification I am working towards.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualifications that I earn through my apprenticeship training helps me develop my skills in different areas.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Plenty! There are always socials being planned - whether it be activities (such as Bowling, Golf, Skydiving), parties (such as indoor based games and networking) or fundraising events - there are plenty of opportunities to have fun outside of our work.
